Sociolinguistics is a core course offered to first-year Master's students that explores the relationship between language and society. It examines how social factors such as age, gender, social class, ethnicity, identity, and context influence language use and variation. The course introduces key concepts including language variation and change, speech communities, multilingualism, language attitudes, code-switching, language policy, and linguistic identity. Through theoretical and practical analysis, students develop a deeper understanding of language as a social phenomenon and enhance their ability to investigate sociolinguistic issues in diverse contexts.
